Trapped Inside A Painting: Photoshop Assignment

Thanks to the fabulous Cristina J. Rizzo for providing the painting that I am so comfortably "floating" in. I think this is going to be totally off the mark for the assignment but it was fun while it lasted.

Stay tuned for next week when I photoshop myself naked onto a beach full of dancing manatees..... you'd never spot me.

Goodnight!

Day 250:

SteamWhistle Brewery
Toronto, Ontario

Happy Drinking!

Note: Blogger did NOT like the layout that I created for my assignment poster AT ALL. It was too tall and skinny and wouldn't display well - I even tried resizing so it was really wide and you had to scroll down so you could see each photo at a reasonable size. No dice. Therefore, I just threw this new layout together in about half an hour at about 1 am, so all you graphic/layout people out there, just, believe me when I say, "Ay-oooo! Ooo-aaaay! Waaaaaaaatch'iiiiit! I smacka'your faaaace you gimme some lip'eh?"

Capiche?

Splendid. Tons of amore. Goodnight

The Beer Shot: Initial Edit - Final To Come

(Note - Nov 15th: Reshooting for the glass tomorrow. It needs work.)

I most certainly hope you clicked that link. Seriously, it makes my heart smile.

So, finally a shot from Commercial this year that I'm really stoked on. The first two assignments were pretty "blah" - my fault - but I loved doing this. Maybe it had something to do with drinking the beer that lost its bubbles, maybe it had something to do with drinking the rest of the beer after the shoot was over, I DON'T KNOW. Your guess is really as good as mine.
But this was fun. Total time spent:

4 1/2 hours in studio
8 hours post production
1 hour sleeping on my bedroom floor

Hope it was worth it. Portfolio image for sure.

Love love love,

Goodnight

Monday, November 9, 2009

Day 243- Monday, November 9, 2009

Day 243;

"Snakeskin"

Had our "Beer Shot/Pour Shot" assignment in Commercial Studio class today. I definitely felt more confidant with the one than I did on my first two commercial assignments. Hopefully things are picking up.

I spent all night photoshopping but I'm only halfway to getting the beer image presentable. It's kind of a slow process as the working file is 3.36 gigs on my hard drive. Saving (which one is supposed to do often) takes about 5 minutes each time. It's... slow going.

Anyways, it's been a productive day... and something about getting to drink beer while shooting an assignment... heh heh.

Goodnight

Day 242- Sunday, November 8, 2009

Day 242:

Carling & Molly the Burmese Python
...all 10 feet of her...

It's a very well known fact that I love snakes. Very well known. Those who know me best are often heard remarking of me, "Chris? Gosh! He's snake CRAZY! He's got the bedsheets, the encyclopedias, snake motif kitchenware, a private box at the yearly Toronto Snake Opera... the snake mania never ends with him!"

Dot dot dot...

Uuuh, okay so no. But snakes are wicked awesome. I'd love to have one. People who are afraid are CLEARLY unaware of just how totally neat they can be.

Am I doing a good PR job for snakes? Maybe the National Snake Council should hire me. Give me a few months and the end of this decade will reign in the end of "The Age of The Squeamish"!

Okay, wow. I've been talking about snakes for way too long. I think the word has lost all meaning. SNAKE!

So! Today was ALSO my incredibly wicked nephew Andrew's first birthday party. His birthday isn't until Wednesday (Remembrance Day, so it's kind of hard to forget) but I'm still super stoked for him. I can't believe it's been a year already. I remember the day he was born like it happened yesterday... siiigh....

Anyways, I think I'll have to share a few photos of Andrew in a few days.

Until then, I hope you're all super fly. You better be.

OKAY GOODNIGHT!

Looooove!

Friday, November 6, 2009

Day 240- Friday, November 6, 2009

Day 240:

Dear Chocolat Girl,

I'm so sorry, your photo was really whack; it was appearing as chunky, pixelated, freaky, photograph-from-the-black-lagoon weirdness on other people's computers. It looked fine on mine... but not so good elsewhere. Not sure exactly how to explain that one. Hmmm....

So, here's something else.

I'm really sad because I've been wanting to post that photo for ever....

"I can't go back"

I finally developed this roll from the summer. Silvertone pwns. I shall call it Silverpwn.

I also love these ladies. But pwn does not fit into that word. So they are just ladies who pwn.

Happy Halloween everyone. I hope you are all having fun, not dressed too slutty, and eating copious amounts of chocolate. I am going to go watch a scary movie and fall asleep.

Goodfright!

*mwaaaaaha ha ha ha ha ha ha*..

Bren

Thanks Henry's. The award was really awesome! Totally appreciated. Very swell.

Thanks everyone else for being supportive and believing in me.

Hope you enjoyed the totally unrelated shot. I've decided that I really need to be shooting more again. I've been slacking with all the work I've been doing. WHY!?

I broke the rule for shooting Melissa. It was pointed out a while ago that every time I post a photo of her on 365, her hair is blowing around. I guess I kinda ruined it with this one but... what the hey...

I'm also pretty stoked for tomorrow night; I'm receiving a scholarship award from Humber for academic achievement. Gotta respect a keener, eh?

Goodnight friends.

Middle: A typical day in the life of a commercial set.
Bottom: A typical day in the life of a student on a commercial set.

*Notice the commercial steamer for smoothing out wrinkles in the sheets and pillows. But things are not as they seem. In truth, I just brought it in to "steam things up in the bedroom". Unfortunately, all my fellow students in the studio were kind of a clockblock....

Day 222- Monday, October 19, 2009

Day 222:

Finally, here it is, a shot from Regina!

I'm pretty bummed. I went through probably my first real photography-idiot experience shooting this. Without going into details, I'll just say that 97% of my images (from three rolls of film) came out totally overexposed. Totally my fault, and I can assure one and all, that this mistake will not be repeated. Sadly, this was definitely a learning experience, and a hard kick in the butt to the complacency I have shooting digitally; being able to see your shots right after capture and correct your mistakes instantly is a luxury that can severely numb your ability to see and evaluate lighting for yourself. Don't ever forget how to see for yourself!

And at the end of it, I can use the excuse that Regina was just far too distracting for me to get anything right! Better results next time!

Love

PS - Thanks to the excellent and talented Corbin Smith for being such a standup guy today modeling for my Queen West editorial assignment! The assignment theme is "Queen St. West: Cool vs. Corporate". I had some really strong ideas for this project and I'm really happy with what we created. Also, I'm pretty sure Corbin did more work than I did to get the shots, so again, huge thanks. Corbin is also a Fourth Year photography student at Guelph-Humber and I strongly urge you to check out his epic project Map Of Canadian; it's really inspired me to DO instead of dream about doing.

THANK YOU
