Day 234- Saturday, October 31, 2009

Day 234:

"I can't go back"

I finally developed this roll from the summer. Silvertone pwns. I shall call it Silverpwn.

I also love these ladies. But pwn does not fit into that word. So they are just ladies who pwn.

Happy Halloween everyone. I hope you are all having fun, not dressed too slutty, and eating copious amounts of chocolate. I am going to go watch a scary movie and fall asleep.

Goodfright!

*mwaaaaaha ha ha ha ha ha ha*..

(I hope that sounded sinister)

Finally got proper scans of this roll of 35mm colour-neg from the summer.
Don't mind the dust.

Thanks for the flatbed scanner Humber.

Day 232- Thursday, October 29, 2009

Day 232:

Bren

Thanks Henry's. The award was really awesome! Totally appreciated. Very swell.

Thanks everyone else for being supportive and believing in me.

Hope you enjoyed the totally unrelated shot. I've decided that I really need to be shooting more again. I've been slacking with all the work I've been doing. WHY!?

Goodnight

Day 231- Wednesday, October 28, 2009

Day 231:

Mil.

I broke the rule for shooting Melissa. It was pointed out a while ago that every time I post a photo of her on 365, her hair is blowing around. I guess I kinda ruined it with this one but... what the hey...

I'm also pretty stoked for tomorrow night; I'm receiving a scholarship award from Humber for academic achievement. Gotta respect a keener, eh?

Goodnight friends.

Day 230- Tuesday, October 27, 2009

Day 230:

"I saw my ex pen pal on a subway platform today.
I thought,
'The ghost has flesh now, again,
only to be out of reach.'
I felt sick."

Goodnight

Day 229- Monday, October 26, 2009

Day 229:

Anatomy of a Commercial Shoot:

"Bed Time"

Top: What I'm handing in. (Potentially subject to change)
Middle: A typical day in the life of a commercial set.
Bottom: A typical day in the life of a student on a commercial set.

*Notice the commercial steamer for smoothing out wrinkles in the sheets and pillows. But things are not as they seem. In truth, I just brought it in to "steam things up in the bedroom". Unfortunately, all my fellow students in the studio were kind of a clockblock....

Otherwise exhausted,

Goodnight.

Day 222- Monday, October 19, 2009

Day 222:

Finally, here it is, a shot from Regina!

I'm pretty bummed. I went through probably my first real photography-idiot experience shooting this. Without going into details, I'll just say that 97% of my images (from three rolls of film) came out totally overexposed. Totally my fault, and I can assure one and all, that this mistake will not be repeated. Sadly, this was definitely a learning experience, and a hard kick in the butt to the complacency I have shooting digitally; being able to see your shots right after capture and correct your mistakes instantly is a luxury that can severely numb your ability to see and evaluate lighting for yourself. Don't ever forget how to see for yourself!

And at the end of it, I can use the excuse that Regina was just far too distracting for me to get anything right! Better results next time!

Love

PS - Thanks to the excellent and talented Corbin Smith for being such a standup guy today modeling for my Queen West editorial assignment! The assignment theme is "Queen St. West: Cool vs. Corporate". I had some really strong ideas for this project and I'm really happy with what we created. Also, I'm pretty sure Corbin did more work than I did to get the shots, so again, huge thanks. Corbin is also a Fourth Year photography student at Guelph-Humber and I strongly urge you to check out his epic project Map Of Canadian; it's really inspired me to DO instead of dream about doing.

THANK YOU

Day 221- Sunday, October 18, 2009

Day 221:

Infrared # 2 - Janice

It's been a hell of a weekend. A shoot excursion in Queen West, finally shooting my roll of Kodachrome - who knows if I'll ever get my hands on another. I have about ten shots left and I think I'll be using them again tomorrow. Today, a wedding assist in Burlington - fun, exciting, beautiful people, the marriage status quo.

I'm tired.

Goodnight

Day 216- Tuesday, October 13, 2009

Day 216:

Infrared Photograph # 1
Fuji S3 Infrared-Converted DSLR

I've been wanting to shoot infrared for a long time. I finally got the hookup from my program co-ordinator who had a converted Fuji lying around. He brought it to school and voila, I got to use it.

I really want to shoot some architecture with this camera; old buildings look way badass in infrared.

Anyways, I'm about to start hallucinating. Better get to sleep.

Goodnight!

Monday, October 12, 2009

Day 215- Monday, October 12, 2009

Day 215:

Happy Thanksgiving, Happy Fall

I think I spend too much time on these sometimes. I need to wake up in three and a half hours for school. Sleep is for... smart people. I am not smart.

Goodnight friends,

Thanks for being here.

Love Love Love

ps - if you all promise to get really huge computer screens, I'll post the full resolution image which actually does justice to these leaves... I was hoping you'd see more detail. It's pretty reduced with the low resolution for web viewing. BOO!

Day 214- Sunday, October 11, 2009

Day 214:

Portrait Session Outtake:
Some handsome Men
and other Cats

Clearly not in keeping with the abstract/poetry motif:

I rocked some really sweet portraits tonight with my old pals from the G. It was a handsome 4 light setup. I'm feeling pretty stoked on that but my goal for further shoots is to work with 2-3 more lights and Pocket Wizards (professional flash triggering devices). I've been having too many issues lately with strobes not firing when they're supposed to, and its just kind of - he says sarcastically - impeding my freedom with the placement and orientation of the lights. Total Buzz Killington.

Make sure you check out Christian's absurd awesomeness here at The Christian Punk Band.

ps - This post is not a day late! I forgot to create it before 3 am when the time stamp changes over to the next day. Not cool. NOT COOL!

Friday, October 9, 2009

Day 212- Friday, October 9, 2009

Day 212:

A room full of
legs but only
two feet.

The only part of me that's
worthy for the world to see.

Soiled hands, soiled heart,
hidden then,

But I've carried the world
on these feet.

Day 211- Thursday, October 8, 2009

Day 211:

Someone I knew once wrote something
about a "frantic undoing" and
I think about that
a lot

This is the story of my life:

It's not a love story,
and it's not a sad story;
it's a story of things that happen,
one thing after another,

just things,
one after another.

..."and I think we all spend some time
contemplating the glass"

Day 210- Wednesday, October 7, 2009

If I were a room I
wouldn't know which
wall to be or
if I were the floor or
the ceiling

Dream safely.

Day 208- Monday, October 5, 2009

Day 208:

So, way back on Day 4, I talked about the necessity for copious amounts of "stuff" as a photographer. Two hundred and four days later, my theory is only further reinforced.

Go HomeSense!

...or go home. Okay, that was a really cheesy attempt at a joke. I hope someone snorted embarassingly while at their desk at work...

Final image to be handed in for my Location Fashion assignment.

So fierce! Can't wait to shoot more of THIS GIRL! . . . . The capitals means "click me."

Daguerreotype demonstration tomorrow! So excited!

Goodnight friends,

Day 206- Saturday, October 3, 2009

Day 206:

These are my brothers the way I will always remember them.

I'm going to start photographing subjects digitally through the viewfinder of my Yashica. Photographing the subject through the ground glass adds another dimension to the image; it emphasizes the moment of capture rather than the captured moment, giving tangible context to the relationship between subject and intent.
It also helps to create a more visceral experience for the viewer, as the act of photography itself is documented.

Look forward to more of this; the quality of the image on the ground glass will certainly improve as the technique progresses.

Hope you're as stoked as I am.
Love

Day 204- Thursday, October 1, 2009

Day 204:

" Last night I dreamed I was a sad robot.
I was cold steel.

Twenty one twenty,
'Where are my batteries?' "

Absolutely exhausted but have been very productive.

Gettin' things done.

Goodnight.
