Day 365: Thursday, March 11, 2010

Day 365:

Well my friend. We've come this far, you and I.

Honestly, I just want to thank everyone - everyone, everyone, everyone. If you're reading this, there's a good chance - no, wait a tick. YOU ARE one of the people I want to thank. So seriously, thank you.
I know maybe I'm making a bigger deal of this than it needs to be. It's just one photo a day right?.

But thanks to so many super, suuuper beautiful people, all being so supportive and so positive, it's become a lot more to me.

No one ever gave me a hard time about this or rolled their eyes and said it was stupid. My friends have been so patient with me when I sat in the middle of hangouts with my nose pressed against the screen (, rum and cokes close at hand obviously). My family has been super supportive and always giving me cute input. My profs at school have been equally supportive, and hopefully understanding if I didn't have my (less important) assignments in exactly on time.

Honestly, everybody rocks.

Lastly, thanks to my shorty Janice for the help with today's photo.
You made the smile legit.

With that being said, I think I will call it a night... the last one for 365.

Sigh...

LOVE

LOVE

LOVE

GOODNIGHT
GOODBYE!

ps - ...because if you know me, you'll know that when I leave the house, I've most certainly forgotten something.

That's where you'll find me these days. Have a peek.

writing his timeless licks and epic hooks.

Thank you.

Note: Christian, I am so sorry to keep you waiting so long for this portrait. I let that slip my friend. My slowness in no way reflects my immense love for you. It's quite immense. Let me show you how immense.

Day 360: Saturday, March 6, 2010

Day 360:

One of Don Draper's buddies from up North eh?

I shot this portrait of my uncle today in his office at King & Yonge for an "environmental executive portrait" (or something like that) assignment. He was such a good subject - patient and very cooperative, and of course, we can't forget handsome! The architecture inside was just beautiful too and there were so many wicked spots to shoot from. I actually wish I could do more work here!

Anyways, it's been a crazy day, and I need to get my butt to bed. When I wake up, I can take my heart monitor off! WOO!

We're really getting down to the wire here though - five days left! UUUUUGH.....

Stoked/Not Stoked

Must also note - a recent discovery: apparently this portrait is not due for two weeks. The one that is due this week... I should have shot that first. Now I'm kinda screwed. GAH!

Day 358:

I need to do this more....

Except, this girl's boobs were waaaaay too big. Hello Liquify tool!

I got to shoot her in a class demo put on by one of our profs. I'm really hustling to get some shoots going soon though. Very, very stoked.

I actually picked up the prints tonight for my first "beta" portfolio which I'll be taking to a few agencies, to get girls, stylists, and makeup artists so that I can do shoots and build a REAL portfolio. I think maybe it's too ambitious given my current responsibilities and time constraints but, what the hell, ambition's better than laziness!

Okay. Wonderful. Goodnight!

Day 354:

Props for this actually go to Gabby Graham for holding the camera while I was driving. I set everything up and just told her to go nuts with the pictures. We had a funny drive home (to her home... when I was driving her home... last night... you get it...) with cameras. I actually just brought the DSLR to get a good exposure for my Yashica. That's where the fun started. Trying to teach someone how to use a manual twin lens camera from 1957 while driving in bad weather at 2am is just.... not something you do. So, we pulled over. Ha. My parents were probably getting ready to mentally strangle me.

Anyways, I finished that roll of film this afternoon and maaaay develop it tonight before bed. I'm stoked for the weird pictures we took.

Also, Gabby informed me that she "hasn't ever read a...."BLOG".... and doesn't really give a #%@$", or something to that effect, so, hopefully by showcasing her dazzling talents here, I can drag her into following. Sadly, ironically, right at the END of my project too. God, when I think about it, she is just such a big bi.... wait! Never mind! Ha. I'm kidding. Gabby is swell!

ANYWAYS!

It's a real shame though; I wasn't in the same room as my parents watching today's EPIC Mens's Hockey win - did I REALLY need to specify which epic win? Probably not - over the US or I could have gotten some really awesome pictures of my mom freaking out. But sweet merciful god that game was good!

....and terrible.... 24 seconds COME ON!

Okay, so that's enough for tonight. I'm getting sick, so I need my sleep.

Love Love Love!

Returning Guest Photographer
Rebecca Cairns
Series of Self Portraits # 2

As I mentioned before, I was quite excited to bring you guys another round of her self portraits. I follow Rebecca's blog daily, and some of these are creatively, very inspiring.

(If only she'd get her web file sizing down to a standard *cough*)

If you didn't see before, HERE'S the first series of her work I posted back on Day 298 - January 3rd. It's interesting to see the progression of her work. The more recent post is darker, more unsettling and moodier. There is more disturbance and motion. While the earlier images focused on the (clean) form, now you see the form more integrated into a concept and an environment.

I like where it's going.

Okie dokie. Enough of that. Less talk, more photography. Good?

Good.

Goodnight

Reblog: The photography of Rebecca Cairns

You may remember a while ago I blogged a number of self portraits by Rebecca. I think her work is pretty swell and, while I posted something for tonight, I later decided that that image wasn't right. Furthermore, I've been wanting to post a second string of newer images from Rebecca. This image here is a recent addition to her blog, and I think this will be a good warm up for another group of her self portraits to come soon.

This sort of reblogging, and sharing of other inspiring work is giving me ideas for what's to come post-365. I'm excited.

As for the shot of Andrew, if any of you saw it, keep it in mind; I'll bring it back later.

Day 340:

Happy Valentines Day:
The Message In The Cucumber

I fully believe in coincidence, and I definitely, definitely believe that sometimes, things come together in astounding ways, seeming to tell us something.

What I find most beautiful about this idea is that maybe, destiny, or fate, or meaning, are completely illusory crap, invented to rationalize and explain our situations, behaviors or perspectives, that astronomically improbable circumstances simply come and go in complete meaninglessness.

I mean, what's truly more romantic: something happening because it was supposed to, predictably, or an instant where something beautiful and huge is produced within the staggeringly vast nothingness of infinite potential.

- - -

This morning I was making breakfast, which happened to be cucumber + creamcheese on a bagel - a definite favorite lately. I sliced into the cucumber and discovered this heart shape in the center. I thought, Wow, on Valentines no less....

I cut the cucumber in a few very close spots, and didn't find the same pattern in the seeds. Maybe it's really mundane - messages from the universe in cucumbers- but the beauty in the coincidence is hard to overlook.

So that's how I see it.

Coincidence is beautiful, because it is meaningless, yet still occurs.

Day 338:

^ Click me to read the article! ^

First off, Happy Birthday Dad!

Now. Thank you Humber Et Cetera. It's definitely a start. : )

Two weeks ago I responded to a posting from a reporter at Humber's newspaper, the Et Cetera. She was writing a feature on students who blog, and well, I think I fall under that category, so I decided to check it out. So, here's the story. It ran two days ago. Pretty wicked.

Must note though: The large top left image and the small image directly next to it were submitted in one file as a diptych. They got cut up and resized to fit the layout. I GET that, and I'm only a little ticked about it, but fellow photographers, artists, and submitters of things to editorial establishments: protect your intellectual and creative property!

I'm suddenly hearing a wicked, made-up-in-my-head, string-of-curses-filled rant by Hunter Thompson on the evil rat bastard photo editors of the world.... heh heh heh... but, I didn't say that. Hunter did. I am humble and happy that my blog was featured. Really. I'm not mad. I'm not harboring any kind of grudge. I'm NOT stroking a well oiled firearm under my desk at this very moment....

.... heh heh heh....

Okay, well that was fun. It's also amusing that I'm apparently in third year according to the article. Maybe I can use that erroneous little factoid to manipulate my OSAP, AND student line of credit repayment schedule... strokes Machiavellian-archetype facial hair.....

God I miss writing.

Goodnight lovelies. It's been Good!

Love Love Love

(ps, I DO photograph other people besides Emilie. I swear. Really.)

Yonge St. Heading North & Skyline from 8 Wellesley

I've been wanting to do this sort of stuff for a while. I also haven't been shooting a ton lately, so this was fun. I didn't want it to look clean and smooth - or I'd have used a tripod and the automated features in Photoshop - so I shot it real fast handheld, and assembled it myself. It's composed of about 30 photographs.

It's fun and rough; I like that.

Anyways, I'm assisting tomorrow morning at 8 so I better get some sleep.
